Cookie Policy
Last updated: 2 June 2026
This Cookie Policy explains how Preloved Bazaar uses cookies and similar technologies on prelovedbazaar.co.uk (the “Platform”), what they do, and how you can control them. It should be read together with our Privacy Policy, which explains how we handle personal data more generally.
1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. Cookies let a site remember things between pages and visits — for example, that you are logged in or what is in your basket. We also use a few similar technologies (such as local storage and pixels) that work in much the same way; in this policy we refer to all of them as “cookies”.
Cookies set by us are called first-party cookies. Cookies set by another organisation whose service we use (such as our payment provider) are called third-party cookies.
2. The two types of cookie, and when we need your consent
The cookies we use fall into two groups, and the rules are different for each:
- Strictly necessary cookies. These are essential for the Platform to work — for example to log you in, keep your session secure, remember your basket, and process a payment. Without them, services you have asked for cannot be provided. Under the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) these do not require your consent, and they cannot be switched off through our cookie controls.
- Non-essential cookies (analytics and marketing). These help us understand how the Platform is used, improve it, or measure and support marketing. Under PECR we set non-essential cookies only with your prior consent.
3. Your choice — and how we ask for it
When you first visit the Platform (and again if our cookies change), we show a cookie banner that asks for your consent to non-essential cookies before any are set. On that banner:
- you can “Accept all” to allow non-essential cookies, or
- “Reject all” to refuse them — and the “Reject all” option is given equal prominence to “Accept all”, so refusing is just as easy as accepting;
- strictly necessary cookies are always on, because the Platform cannot work without them.
We do not treat continuing to browse, or scrolling, as consent. Non-essential cookies stay off until you actively agree.
4. How to change your mind
You can change or withdraw your cookie choices at any time, and it is as easy to withdraw consent as it was to give it:
- use the “Manage consent” link to reopen your cookie settings and change your choices at any time;
- or change the cookie settings in your browser. All major browsers let you block or delete cookies; doing so may stop parts of the Platform from working as intended (for example, you may be logged out or lose the contents of your basket).
5. The cookies we use
We describe the cookies we use by purpose rather than listing individual cookies, because the exact cookies can change as we improve the Platform. What does not change is the purpose each group serves and the consent rules that apply to it.
5.1 Strictly necessary (always on — no consent required)
These cookies are essential for the Platform to work and stay secure. They are used to:
- keep you signed in and protect the security of your session;
- remember the items in your basket and your progress through checkout;
- let you save items to a wishlist or comparison list;
- make sure you are shown the correct version of a page (for example, the signed-in versus signed-out view);
- take payments securely and help prevent fraud, through our payment provider.
Because the Platform cannot work without them, these cookies are always on and cannot be switched off through our cookie controls.
5.2 Analytics (set only with your consent)
With your consent, we use analytics cookies to understand how the Platform is used and how it performs — for example, which pages are visited — so that we can improve it. These cookies are set only after you accept analytics cookies, and never before. We use Google Analytics to provide this.
5.3 Marketing and advertising
We do not currently use marketing or advertising cookies, and we do not run third-party advertising or social-media tracking pixels (for example, Meta/Facebook, TikTok or Google Ads). If this ever changes, we will update this policy and ask for your consent before any such cookie is set.
6. Third-party cookies
Some cookies are set by trusted third parties whose services we use: our payment provider (to take payments securely and help prevent fraud) and, where you have consented to analytics, our analytics provider. These organisations are responsible for their own cookies and handle that data under their own privacy and cookie policies.
7. Changes to this policy, and contact
We may update this Cookie Policy when our cookies or the law change. When we do, we will update the “last updated” date above. If you have any questions about our use of cookies, contact us at hello@prelovedbazaar.co.uk.
